Countries & languages

Country and language names are often related: Spanien → Spanisch, Polen → Polnisch, die Türkei → Türkisch. Ich komme aus der Türkei und spreche Türkisch. The Sprachen question often follows the Woher question when you introduce yourself — have both ready.

Watch out: most countries take no article (Deutschland, Polen, Spanien). A few do: die Türkei, die Ukraine, die Schweiz, which is why the table shows the article for them: Ich komme aus der Türkei.
