Perfect: hat or ist?

Many verbs of movement to another place or a change of state use sein without a direct object: ist gefahren, ist aufgestanden. This is a guide, not an exceptionless rule; learn the auxiliary with the verb. Also learn ist gewesen, ist geblieben and ist passiert in the sense happened. Most other verbs take haben. In a neutral main clause, the participle closes the bracket.
