Writing: greeting & sign-off

The first and last line set the tone: the Anrede and the Gruß should match the recipient. A friend gets Liebe Anna and Viele Grüße; an office gets Sehr geehrte Frau Weber and Mit freundlichen Grüßen. At Goethe, a register that fits the reader is part of the task-fulfilment rating, so keep one register from greeting to closing.

Writing: greeting & sign-off

After the Gruß comes your name — and after Mit freundlichen Grüßen, no exclamation mark and no comma.
