seit or vor?

Two time prepositions, both with the dative:

• seit — it started in the past and is still going on. The usual pattern is seit + present tense: Ich lerne seit einem Jahr Deutsch.
• vor — a point in the past, English “ago”: Vor einem Jahr habe ich angefangen.
