Unit 05 · Yesterday & the past

Describe a trip: where you went, who went with you and what you did.

Many everyday messages and conversations look back: what you did on the weekend, how the vacation was, why you couldn’t come. Unit 5 builds the past tense for telling those stories.

  • the Perfekt with haben: ge…t regulars and the strong participles
  • the Perfekt with sein, and separable verbs (eingekauft, aufgestanden)
  • war / hatte and konnte / wollte / musste — the short past forms
  • time phrases and connectors that put a story in order
